A short drive south on US-31 for Westfield families who want preventive care that does not feel rushed.

Preventive Cleanings for Westfield Families

Of all the cities our office serves, Westfield is the closest. Our address is 14560 River Rd, Suite 105, Carmel, IN 46033. From most Westfield homes, you can be in our chair in 10 to 15 minutes. For routine cleanings, that proximity is the whole game. A short drive means you actually keep your six-month appointment instead of pushing it to nine or twelve months.

SmileCentric is led by Dr. Louis Abukhalaf, who most patients call Dr. Louis. He earned his DDS at Marquette School of Dentistry, graduating magna cum laude, after completing his undergraduate work in chemistry and biochemistry at Loyola University Chicago summa cum laude. He continued his training at the Misch Implant Institute and the Kois Center, two of the most respected post-graduate programs in dentistry. While most Westfield patients see us for routine cleanings, you are getting that care in a practice built on the same standards we apply to the most complex cases.

Dr. Louis is a family, cosmetic, and implant dentist. The breadth matters for a hygiene visit because the same hands that plan a complex case are the ones reviewing your X-rays at a six-month cleaning. Nothing gets a quick glance.

Westfield has grown a lot in the last few years, and so have the dental options. We are not the closest practice for every family, but for the ones who pick us, we try to make every cleaning the kind of visit you do not dread.” — Dr. Louis Abukhalaf

What Happens at a SmileCentric Cleaning Visit

A cleaning visit at SmileCentric usually runs about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how long it has been since your last visit and what we find. Here is what to expect.

Plaque, Tartar, and Gumline Care

Your hygienist removes plaque and hardened tartar from above and below the gumline, with focus on the spots that brushing and flossing miss. We use ultrasonic tools where it makes sense, which most patients find easier on sensitive teeth than traditional hand scaling. Polishing follows, which lifts surface stains from coffee, tea, or red wine.

Gum Health and Oral Cancer Screening

We measure the depth of the pockets around your teeth at every cleaning. Healthy gums show shallow numbers. Inflammation or early periodontal disease shows up in the measurements before you feel anything. Catching it early is the difference between staying on routine cleanings and needing scaling and root planing later. We also screen for oral cancer at every visit, which checks the inside of your mouth, your tongue, and the soft tissues for anything that needs a closer look.

If X-rays are due, we use digital imaging that takes a fraction of the radiation of older film systems. Dr. Louis reviews the X-rays with you on the screen, so you see exactly what he is looking at and why.

Comfort and the Technology We Use

If you have sensitive teeth, dental anxiety, or you have been away from the dentist for a while, tell us when you book. We slow the pace, use gentler tools, and walk you through what is happening in plain language. Intraoral cameras let us show you what we see in your own mouth, in real time.

For Westfield families with kids in sports, we work hard to schedule appointments that do not collide with practices, school days, or tournament weekends. Tell the front desk what you are working around when you book and we will find a fit.

Pricing, Insurance, and the New Patient Special

New patients without insurance can book the $49 New Patient Healthy Mouth Cleaning, which includes a cleaning and polishing in the absence of periodontal disease. We also offer a $59 Comprehensive New Patient Exam that includes X-rays. Both are for new patients and cannot be combined with insurance.

If you have insurance, we are in-network with several major PPO carriers, which usually means routine cleanings are covered at or near 100 percent.

For patients without insurance, our Membership Discount Plan covers cleanings, exams, and X-rays at a flat annual rate, with discounts on other services. Ask the front desk when you book.

A Note About Westfield

Westfield is the closest of the cities we serve. Our office is south of the Westfield city line on the east side of Carmel, less than 15 minutes from most Westfield addresses. Many of our Westfield patients are families who already cross between the two cities for school sports at Grand Park, errands along the US-31 corridor, or work commutes that take them through Carmel.

If you have been considering a switch from a Westfield-area dentist to a different office, the short drive is rarely the issue. The question is usually whether the new office actually feels different. We can only answer that with a first visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the drive from Westfield?

About 10 to 15 minutes from most Westfield addresses. Take US-31 south or Spring Mill Road south, then 146th Street east. From the Bridgewater Club area, the drive is closer to 10 minutes.

How often should I get a dental cleaning?

Every six months for most adults. If you have a history of gum disease, smoke, or have certain medical conditions, your hygienist may suggest coming in every three or four months. We will recommend what fits after your first visit.

Can I book my whole family in for cleanings on the same morning?

Yes. This is one of the most common requests we get from Westfield families. Two or three cleanings stacked in a single morning saves a second trip and is usually easy to arrange. Mention it when you book.

What if my child has not been to the dentist in a while?

No problem. We see kids, teens, and adults under one roof. The first visit is gentle and focused on getting comfortable. If your child is anxious, tell us when you book and we will plan the visit accordingly.

What is the difference between a regular cleaning and a deep cleaning?

A regular cleaning, called prophylaxis, is for healthy gums or mild gum issues. A deep cleaning, called scaling and root planing, is for active periodontal disease and involves cleaning below the gumline in measured pockets. We will not recommend a deep cleaning unless your gum measurements actually call for one.
